individual

Return to chapter overview

An individual is a member of the population and is composed of a set of chromosomes which represents all of the variables involved in solving a problem.  Each individual can be composed of any number of binary and/or enumerated chromosomes.  The number and chromosome types are completely identical for all the individuals of the population, but the concrete values of the chromosomes for each individual are different.  When using the GeneHunter Excel interface, an individual’s chromosomes are displayed in the adjustable cells.
